Entire Gospel of John on stage at Northwestern College

The entire Gospel of John will be performed by guest actress Kelsey Cratty in Northwestern College’s England Proscenium Theatre on Thursday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. Community members are invited to the free performance; a free-will offering will be taken.

Cratty is a founding member of Unbroken Bones theatre company with fellow Hope College graduate Elizabeth Champion. They met when Champion directed and Cratty performed “Juliet,” a one-woman show about a mother of seven whose pastor husband has been imprisoned in communist Hungary.

After college and several years performing and teaching theatre in Houston, Cratty became a missionary to Honduras. While working with The Micah Project, which ministers to young men and boys living on the streets, Cratty felt God calling her to memorize the entire book of John, trusting God would use her to present the text to others theatrically.

Through reestablished connection with Champion, Unbroken Bones and “The Gospel of John” tour was born. “Live performance immediately makes its content more personal than watching a video and more tangible and alive than reading a book,” says Champion, describing Cratty’s performance as “breathing life and immediacy into St. John’s poetry.”

Cratty says that rather than an actress, she views herself as “[God’s] messenger, performing the greatest script of all.”
