Northwestern theatre to present Macbeth

“Double, double toil and trouble” is coming to the England Theatre stage when Northwestern College presents “Macbeth” Nov. 13, 14, 19 and 20 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 21 at 2 and 7:30 p.m.

Northwestern theatre professor Dr. Robert Hubbard is directing the haunting Shakespeare classic in which raw political ambition leads to murder and madness. “Personally, this is my favorite Shakespeare play,” said Hubbard. “I’ve seen it over a dozen times. I’ve acted in it three times. I often repeat its many memorable lines to students.

“The characters are so rich and vivid—and they suffer so much for their reckless ambition,” he adds. “Long before [Netflix’s] ‘House of Cards,’ Shakespeare wrote about the original power couple.”

Macbeth will be played by senior Jacob Christiansen, Omaha. Junior Amanda Hays, Chicago, has the role of Lady Macbeth. The cast also includes two Northwestern professors: Dr. Laird Edman, psychology professor, will play King Duncan, and Dr. Tim Huffman, math professor, will play Old Siward.

Tickets for “Macbeth” are $8 for adults and $4 for students. The DeWitt Theatre box office opens Nov. 2 for Theatre Patrons; it is open Nov. 3–21 for the general public.

Tickets can be reserved at www.nwciowa.edu/tickets or by visiting the box office between 5 and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday or between 1 and 4 p.m. on Saturday. The box office can also be reached by phone, 712-707-7098, or e-mail, boxoffice@nwciowa.edu.
