Northwestern alumna published in handbook

An essay written by Northwestern College alumna Anna (Pitney ’11) Roorda has been published in the 2016 edition of “Writers Inc.,” a student writing handbook.

Roorda’s essay is a drama review of “Killadelphia,” a one-man show that was performed at the regional 2009 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. Her piece was originally written as an assignment for a course taught by Northwestern theatre professor Robert Hubbard.

“Anna’s piece is a great example of writing across the curriculum,” says Dr. Verne Meyer, contributing editor of Writers Inc. “Her essay will help others write about the arts.”

Roorda, a theatre graduate, received a check for $200 for her submission to the publication.

First published in 1989 by Great Source Education Group, Writers Inc is a handbook designed for high school and college students. The book contains all facets of writing, from constructing sentences to developing essays. The handbook also includes information on writing across the curriculum, social media, MLA and APA guidelines, and test- taking skills to assist students in mastering performance-based assessments.
