Directing students present one-acts

Northwestern College directing students will present nine short plays Wednesday, Dec. 5, beginning at 6 p.m., in the DeWitt Theatre Arts Center. The first six plays will be staged in the England Theatre, followed by a brief intermission before the final three plays are presented in the Allen Theatre.

The one-acts are produced as the student-directors’ final exam with minimal staging and peers as actors. Community members are invited to attend the free events; start times are approximate.

At 6 p.m., junior Alex Wendel will direct “Recklessness,” a Eugene O’Neill one-act about a tangled love affair.

A mind-bending murder mystery, “Abra Cadaver,” will be directed by senior Kim Nyflot at 6:35.

“Lights Out: Nobody Died” will take the stage at 7:08 p.m. under the direction of junior Sheric Hull. The play is an adaptation of an old time radio drama.

Junior Jackson Nickolay will direct “Apres Opera” at 7:42. The slapstick comedy includes an old boyfriend and a new fiancé—who happens to be narcoleptic.

“The Final Approach of Flight 232,” based on actual transcripts from United Flight 232’s crash landing in Sioux City, is on stage at 8:03. The drama will be directed by junior Kyle Rubel.

At 8:29, junior Amalia Vasquez will direct “Creation and Fall,” adapted from the biblical story in Genesis.

After an intermission, at 9:33 p.m., junior Tiffany Hach will direct “Impromptu,” a comedy about four actors trying to perform real life.

Another biblical drama, “Naomi and Ruth,” will be directed by senior Hannah Barker at 10:02.“Voices from Chernobyl” will take the stage at 10:18 p.m. under the direction of senior Shelby Vander Molen. The play is an adaptation of an oral history recounting one of the world’s most devastating nuclear disasters.
