Students to present dance concert
Thursday, January 13, 2011
About 190 Northwestern College students will present RUSH 2011, a student dance concert, at 7:30 and 10 p.m. on Feb. 2, 3, 4 and 5 in the England Proscenium Theatre at the DeWitt Theatre Arts Center.
Fourteen dances will be presented, including Afro-jazz, hip-hop, modern, salsa and pointe ballet styles. A special feature of this year’s production, the eighth annual show, will be a dance presented by the student group that won Northwestern’s Best Dance Crew in October.
Tickets for the performance can be reserved after 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 18, with Theatre Patrons able to reserve tickets after 4 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 17. Tickets are only available by e-mailing boxoffice@nwciowa.edu. Cost will be $1 payable at the door, and there will be a limit of 10 tickets per order.
Junior theatre major Dan Sikkema of Hospers is serving as producer after being assistant producer last year. He is joined on the production team by sophomore Morgan Stahl, artistic director; senior Sarah Fisher, stage manager; and Karen Barker, faculty sponsor.
“It’s going to be another great year,” says Sikkema. “Students are enthused to be part of this dance movement, and they are working hard to continue the high quality of RUSH. With the theatre department’s collaboration this year, each dance will have its own personal lighting designer, which will be exciting for the participants and the audience.”
