Nursing students present at research symposium

Six Northwestern College senior nursing students gave presentations at the Nursing Research Symposium sponsored by South Dakota State University’s chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International on March 18. The presentations were based on research projects the students completed last fall as part of Northwestern’s Nursing Science and Informatics course.
Janna Bloemendaal, Orange City; Andrea Larson of Yale, S.D.; and Sarah Seeger of Webster, Minn., spoke on “Nursing Administration of Medication via Enteral Feeding Tubes.”
Beth Hunter, Doon; Kathryn Miller of Blair, Wis.; and Kristi Weeldreyer of Bridgewater, S.D., spoke on “Effect of Continuous Passive Motion Following Total Knee Arthroplasty.”
The symposium’s theme was “Living Nursing Scholarship: Research, Theory and Practice.” Keynote speaker was Dr. Bernadette Melnyk, dean of the Arizona State University College of Nursing and Health Innovation and an internationally recognized expert in theory-based intervention research and evidence-based practice.
