Northwestern to host debate

Update: As of Sept. 19, seating for the debate is reserved to capacity. If you do not already have tickets, you can sign in at the Will-Call table on the campus green beginning at 6 p.m. on Sept. 27 and have your name placed on a waiting list; if there is space available, you will be seated. If you have already received tickets you don't plan to use, please return them to the Will-Call table.

Northwestern's Christ Chapel will be the site of a one-hour debate between Republican Congressman Steve King and his Democrat challenger, former Iowa First Lady Christie Vilsack, on Thursday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m. The debate between the two candidates for Iowa’s newly created 4th district is sponsored by Northwestern, KTIV News 4 of Sioux City, and the N’West Iowa REVIEW of Sheldon. It will be broadcast live by KTIV.

"We are pleased to offer this opportunity for our students, faculty, staff and community to engage in the political process and be well-prepared to vote in November," says Greg Christy, president of Northwestern College.

“KTIV has a long history and commitment of informing Siouxland voters. We’re excited to bring these two candidates together to discuss issues important to voters,” says KTIV Director of News and Operations Bridget Breen.

Peter Wagner, publisher of The N’West Iowa REVIEW, says the newspaper is looking forward to co-hosting the candidates’ debate. “We serve an area that is passionate about preserving its quality of life and are honored to be part of this important educational process.”

The debate will be moderated by KTIV’s Matt Breen. He will be joined by a panel that will include Dan Breen of the N’West Iowa REVIEW; Tom Overlie of KTTC, Rochester, Minn.; and Ann Minnick, assistant professor of communications at Northwestern College.

Admission to the event is free, but because seating is limited, tickets are required. Request tickets by emailing debate@nwciowa.edu or calling 712-707-7100. Include the number of tickets needed and the name and address to which the tickets should be mailed. Tickets will not be mailed before Sept. 10. Seating will be general admission; there is no reserved seating.

This debate will be broadcast in two other television markets covered by the Iowa 4th district, including KTTC from the Rochester-Austin-Mason City market and KWWL out of Waterloo, Iowa. The debate will also be streamed live on ktiv.com.
