Northwestern choir to perform tour repertoire at March 15 concert

The Northwestern College A cappella Choir will perform its touring concert Friday, March 15, at 7:30 p.m. in Christ Chapel. The concert is free and open to the public.

The choir’s spring tour program features sacred works such as “Sicut Cervus” by Renaissance composer Giovanni Palestrina and Richard Burchard’s powerful setting of the hymn “Creator Alme Siderum,” as well as a set of rousing and reflective spirituals. Other highlights include emotive choral works from Latvia, Taiwan and the United States, along with Alice Parker and Robert Shaw’s rendition of the Irish ballad “Johnny, I hardly knew ye.” Ken Steven’s “Dawn and Dusk” illustrates the varied and percussive soundscape of a rainforest from early morning to quiet night.

The 46-member ensemble—under the direction of Dr. Thomas Holm, professor of music—will tour March 2–10, performing at churches in Nebraska, Colorado and Arizona, one of which is located within Grand Canyon National Park.
