Symphonic Band to tour

The Northwestern College Symphonic Band will tour in central Iowa April 8–10, performing a joint concert with the Marshalltown High School bands, giving a concert at The Bridge in Johnston, and participating in a worship service at the First Presbyterian Church of Conrad.

The Symphonic Band’s touring concert includes traditional and modern selections by composers from the U.S. and abroad. The ensemble will perform “The Red Machine” by Peter Graham and “Elegy for Miles Davis” by Richard Rodney Bennett, which will feature Orange City senior Drew Lemke on trumpet.

While the band is at Marshalltown High School, members will conduct solo and small group instructional clinics with the high school musicians. “We always look forward to the experience of making music with another band,” says Northwestern music professor and Symphonic Band conductor Dr. Tim McGarvey, “and we especially love playing with high school students.”

The Northwestern College Symphonic Band has performed across the U.S. and internationally, including in Cuba in 2013.
