Northwestern students perform in Iowa Intercollegiate Honor Band

Six members of the Northwestern College Symphonic Band recently performed in the 100-member Iowa Intercollegiate Honor Band.
The honor band, composed of the best woodwind, brass and percussion students enrolled in 19 colleges and universities throughout the state, gathered at Nevada High School in Nevada, Iowa, Nov. 20–21. In conjunction with the Iowa Music Educators Association conference, the band presented a concert under the direction of Dr. Scott Weiss, director of bands at the University of South Carolina.
The Northwestern honorees were nominated by Dr. Timothy McGarvey, professor of music. For Drew Lemke, junior music major and trumpet player from Orange City, and Emily Laackmann, senior music major and clarinet player from Doon, Iowa, this was their second time performing with the band.
Also selected for this year’s honor were flutists Leigh Carson, a junior writing/rhetoric major from Conrad, Iowa, and Nicole Opgenorth, sophomore Spanish and public relations major from Orange City; Lynae Dadisman, sophomore mathematics major from West Des Moines, Iowa, on clarinet; and Reese Johnson, a sophomore computer science major from Sioux Falls, S.D., on alto saxophone.
