Northwestern to present Raider Days Concert

Northwestern College’s music department will present its annual Raider Days Concert on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. in Christ Chapel. It will feature performances by the A cappella Choir, Women’s Choir, Chamber Orchestra, Symphonic Band and several student soloists. The concert is free and open to the public.

The A cappella Choir will perform “Sicut Cervus” by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, “Prayer” by Rene Clausen, “Jesus Met the Woman at the Well” by Stacey Gibbs and “Hee-oo-hm-ha” by Toby Twining, featuring tenor soloist Nathan Kraayenbrink of Sibley, Iowa.

The Women’s Choir selections are “Joshua” by Caldwell and Ivory and “Nigra Sum” by Pablo Casals.

“Crug-y-bar” from “Household Music” by Ralph Vaughan Williams will be performed by the Chamber Orchestra, as well as selected movements from “Don Quixote Suite” by George Telemann.

The Symphonic Band’s portion will include “October” by Eric Whitacre and George Lloyd’s “Liberty Fanfare.”

As the 2014 recipient of the Cyndy Rowenhorst Vocal Scholarship, Sarah Odom of Northwood, Iowa, will perform “Noel des enfants qui n’ont plus de maisons” by Claude Debussy. Clarinet player Josh Klope of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is the 2014 winner of the Herman and Elizabeth Ritsema Family Instrumental Scholarship and will perform “Solo de Concours” by Henri Rabaud. Both students will be joined by Lori Vande Brake on the piano.

Mikayla Vos of Reasnor, Iowa, 2014 winner of the Rodney Jiskoot Organ Scholarship, will accompany as the audience sings “God of Grace and God of Glory” by John Hughes. The 2014 winner of the Harold G. McGilvra Keyboard Scholarship, Andrew Currier of Ottawa, Kan., will perform “Capriccio” from “Fantasies” by Johannes Brahms.
