Two students to present recital

Two Northwestern College musicians, Courtney Davis and Chelsea Stanton, will share the stage as they present a student recital on Sunday, Feb. 27, at 3 p.m. in Christ Chapel. The public is invited to attend.

Davis, a junior instrumental music education major from Northwood, Iowa, will perform five pieces on the trombone for her portion of the concert. Her selections include Concertino by Ferdinand David, Morceau de Concours by G. Alary, Morceau Symphonique by Alexandre Guilmant and Samuel Rousseau’s Piece Concertante. Junior business administration major Carolyn Dundas will join Davis on a trumpet/trombone duet, Moving Parts by Daniel Kelly.

Davis is a member of Northwestern’s Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Brass Quintet and Chamber Orchestra. She plans to student teach next fall and pursue a job as a band director after graduation.

Stanton, a senior music ministry major from Knoxville, Iowa, will sing nine pieces, including two works arranged by Harry Burleigh: Don’t You Weep When I’m Gone and By an’ By. She will also perform four songs in French, one in German, and two Hebrew pieces: Vay’chulu by Ben Steinberg and Mi Chamocha by Bonia Shur.

Senior music ministry major Monica Vink will accompany Stanton on the organ for Vay’chulu. Staff accompanist Lori Vande Brake will accompany on the piano for the rest of the recital.

Stanton is a member of the Northwestern College Women’s Choir and played saxophone with the Jazz Band for three years. She is currently a chapel intern and previously led a traveling worship team. She plans to work as a worship leader at a church and eventually attend seminary or graduate school.
