Northwestern presents operatic performances
Wednesday, December 29, 2010
Northwestern College’s Heritage Singers chamber choir will give two performances of “A Night at the Opera: Encounter Love, Jealousy, Intrigue, Politics, Revenge and Loyalty Through the Magic of Music.” The shows will be Friday and Saturday, Jan. 21 and 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the England Proscenium Theatre of the DeWitt Theatre Arts Center.
“A Night at the Opera” will include selected scenes from a variety of operas and will feature soloists, ensembles and the full chamber choir in an evening of staged entertainment. The pieces range from serious opera to very light. Most of the selections are in English.
The Heritage Singers are under the direction of Dr. Thomas Holm, professor of music. Hannah McBride, a 2009 Northwestern theatre graduate who is now an admissions counselor, is serving as drama director.
“The show will be a powerful combination of music and story,” says Holm. “There are so many different styles of music and story lines that audiences will find it very enjoyable. It promises to be a really delightful evening with high-quality singing and acting.”
Admission is free, but tickets should be reserved with Nora Verburg at the music office, 712-707-7062. Order tickets early to obtain the best seats.
