Jensen contributes to Superman book

Dr. Randy Jensen, professor of philosophy at Northwestern College, is the author of a chapter in "Superman and Philosophy: What Would the Man of Steel Do?", a new volume in the Blackwell Philosophy and Pop Culture series published by Wiley-Blackwell.

The book was published in June to coincide with the release of the Superman reboot, "Man of Steel," in theaters.

Jensen's chapter, "A World Without a Clark Kent?", asks if Superman is being indulgent in trying to have an ordinary life as Clark Kent. "The world's needs could keep him busy full time as Superman," Jensen writes. "How much does morality demand of [him]? How much is demanded of us? We also go about our daily lives when there are probably things we could be doing to make the world a better place—admittedly less 'super' things, but the point remains."

Jensen has also contributed a chapter to a Blackwell series book on Batman. A member of Northwestern's faculty since 1999, Jensen earned a doctorate in philosophy from UCLA.
