Corrie Hayes of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Kelsey Lang of Orange City, graduating seniors at Northwestern College, received Faculty Honors during the college’s commencement exercises on July 18.

The Faculty Honors award is bestowed upon graduates who excel in academic achievement, Christian influence, general attitude and participation in worthwhile campus activities. The highest honor the faculty gives to graduating seniors, it is determined by a vote of the entire faculty.

Hayes completed majors in theatre and business administration/marketing and a minor in arts administration. She graduated Summa Cum Laude for compiling a grade point average of 3.90 or above and received the theatre department’s Outstanding Graduating Senior Award.

Hayes was a member of the Drama Ministries Ensemble and received a commendation for excellence in costume design at a regional college theatre festival. She also served as a peer tutor, ambassador and teaching assistant. A participant in a Spring Service Partnerships trip to Amsterdam, she also interned with Omaha Performing Arts and spent a semester studying at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.

In August, Hayes will move to Seattle, where she will be an actor with the Taproot Theatre Company.

Lang majored in political science and public relations, graduating Magna Cum Laude for compiling a grade point average of 3.70 to 3.89. An editor and writer for the student newspaper, she was a recipient of Northwestern’s E. Grady Holland Journalism Award.

Lang completed a prestigious Carlson Internship with the American Medical Association in Chicago and participated in a Summer of Service in Jamaica. She also was a Spring Service Partnerships participant and coordinator as well as a peer tutor. A national qualifier in track, Lang earned NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors in that sport and in cross country.
