Three receive Faculty Honors award

Three graduating seniors at Northwestern College received Faculty Honors during the college’s commencement exercises on May 14. Greta Hays of Chicago, Josh Locker of Orange City and Anna Pitney of Wausau, Wis., were recognized.

The Faculty Honors award is bestowed upon graduates who excel in academic achievement, Christian influence, general attitude and participation in worthwhile campus activities. The highest honor the faculty gives to graduating seniors, it is determined by a vote of the entire faculty.

Hays, a public relations major, graduated Summa Cum Laude. Recipient of the communications department’s Outstanding Graduating Senior Award, Hays recently completed an arts management internship at the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival in Washington, D.C. Active in numerous theatre productions at Northwestern, Hays also served as a tutor, student ambassador and participant in Spring Service Projects. She was a recipient of a Norman Vincent Peale Scholarship, which is awarded to students who exhibit high academic ability and who possess school, church and community leadership skills. Hays will serve as a media relations fellow for a performing arts organization in Washington, D.C.

Locker, a biology health professions major, graduated Summa Cum Laude and was the recipient of the biology department’s Outstanding Graduating Senior Award. He conducted summer research at Sanford Health in Sioux Falls and at Northwestern College. A Norman Vincent Peale Scholarship recipient, Locker was a tutor and a Spring Service Project participant. He previously served as a student ambassador, a resident assistant, and a member of the golf team. Locker has been accepted into medical school at the University of Iowa.

Pitney, a theatre and speech major, graduated Summa Cum Laude. The recipient of the theatre department’s Outstanding Graduating Senior Award, Pitney was a member of the Sigma Tau senior honor society. She was a finalist in Northwestern’s speech competition, and she wrote a short story that was selected for publication by the Albion Review. Pitney participated in several Spring Service Projects. She will be a student teacher in English at a Christian academy in Bloomington, Ill., next fall.
