Art exhibit to feature permanent collection

Art from Northwestern College’s permanent collection will fill the college’s Te Paske Gallery during an exhibit scheduled for Dec. 3–15.

According to gallery director Rein Vanderhill, a professor of art at Northwestern, it’s rare for the college to have a dedicated exhibit of the art it owns, although various pieces are hung throughout campus and in the halls of the Korver Visual Arts Center year-round.

The December exhibit will feature approximately one-fourth of Northwestern’s collection in a wide range of media—primarily paintings, drawings and prints, but also some sculptures. Some of the art pieces were donated, while others were purchased from visiting artists whose work was displayed at the college.

Northwestern’s art faculty base those purchases on which works would be most valuable to the college’s art students as teaching examples. A secondary consideration is which art would be most enjoyed by the campus community.

The Te Paske Gallery is located in the Thea G. Korver Visual Arts Center, on Highway 10 at 214 8th Street SW in Orange City. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to midnight Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to midnight Sunday.
