Called to compassion
When Mallory enrolled at Northwestern, she had two brothers attending NWC and her dad was an alum. She transferred to another college but returned after just a semester away. She says she felt called back to Northwestern and it felt like home. While Mallory is unsure what type of nursing she wants to pursue, she eventually wants to go to graduate school and become a nurse practitioner or certified, registered nurse anesthetist. She also dreams of becoming a travel nurse, which would allow her to explore new places while making a difference in people’s lives.
Faith lived out
I chose Northwestern because of its faith-based community and campus. As for nursing, I have always had a deep desire to serve others. I know nurses make a significant impact on people’s lives by providing care, support and education to patients and their families. Being able to offer comfort and aid to those in need resonated deeply with me. It’s a field where I can live out my faith through acts of compassion, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to follow this calling.
Centered on Christ
Northwestern’s nursing program centers everything around Christ. It is teaching me to serve in the way Jesus taught us to serve—to approach each act in nursing in a way that aligns with God’s teachings. The constant emphasis on integrating faith with our nursing practice not only enhances our skills, but also enriches our spiritual lives. It’s inspiring to be part of a community that sees nursing as more than a profession but a calling to serve others in the name of Christ.
Impactful friendships
I’ve gained lifelong friendships at Northwestern. The people I’ve surrounded myself with have pushed me to become the best version of myself, and I’m very thankful that NWC led me to a group of good friends. These friendships and the spiritual growth I have experienced are invaluable. They’ve enriched my life in ways that go beyond academics, providing me with a strong support system and a deeper understanding of my faith.
Learning tools
The nursing facilities and equipment in the DeWitt Family Science Center are exceptional. We’re able to use technology that simulates what we’ll experience during our nursing careers. Hands-on learning encourages critical thinking and practical application of the skills and procedures we are being taught.
