It all adds up
A double major in economics and business administration-finance, David is president of the Investment Club and an economics tutor. With a desire to become a commercial real estate adviser, he has completed internships with Marcus & Millichaps commercial real estate brokerage in Denver and Axis real estate investment firm in Orange City. An NAIA Scholar-Athlete and College Sports Communicators All-District team member in tennis, David chose Northwestern for the sense of community, the strong academics and competitive athletics.
Life equations
My adviser showed me how I could double major without picking up an overwhelming amount of work. I chose to major in economics because I wanted to have a strong grasp on macroeconomic events and how they affect the stock market and the consumer. The Northwestern economics major gives students an understanding of the math behind different economic assumptions, while also allowing students to envision how the graphs and equations relate to things that are observable in our lives. The ability to do internships for credit is also a big strength, as students can use this to gain valuable resume-building experience and to test the waters in a field before graduation.
Achievable abstracts
The business and economics faculty are eager to help students understand difficult topics. They make things challenging but achievable. The professors do a great job of applying abstract topics to real-world situations through projects and in-class examples.
Support network
Northwestern prepared me for my future by teaching me to balance life and schoolwork and allowing me to learn from others how to navigate life as a Christian. The liberal arts education opened my eyes to think more clearly. General education classes forced me to find conviction in my beliefs. This has shaped the way I take on new challenges. NWC has given me lifelong friends and the connection to teachers I plan to stay in touch with. NWC has instilled a strong work ethic in me, giving me space to push myself and gain confidence by seeing what I am capable of, with their great support by my side.
