Northwestern music department welcomes South Korean pianist

Northwestern College will host a recital by South Korean pianist Kyeong-Won Roh on Friday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m. in Christ Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.

Roh is an internationally recognized pianist, having appeared as a recitalist and chamber musician at venues such as the Berliner Philharmonie, Konzerthaus Berlin, Meistersaal Berlin and Frauenkirche Dresden. She has also performed as a soloist and chamber musician at the Berlin Asia-Pacific Festival, Schnackenberg Musikfest, Dreiklang Festival and Tongyeong Festival.

As an orchestral soloist, she has performed with chamber orchestras across South Korea and Europe, including Kammersolisten der Deutschen Oper Berlin (Germany), Pirna Orchestra (Germany), Mozart Collegium Chamber Orchestra (Austria), and several philharmonic orchestras in South Korea.

Roh’s concert, titled “Sentimental,” will include selections from Romantic era composers including Mozart, Schubert, Schumann and Chopin. For more information, contact Lisa Koerselman at 712-707-7062 or lisa.koerselman@nwciowa.edu.

Since 2002, Roh has been a faculty member in the piano department at Inje University in Gimhae, South Korea, where she teaches piano and piano pedagogy. Additionally, in the department of digital anti-aging health care, she teaches subjects such as Performance Science, Rhythmic Education and Music Convergence Education. Roh has served as the executive director and general artistic director of the Gimhae International Music Festival since founding it in 2006. She is also the director of the Inje Music & Arts Education Center.
