Comedy "Museum" on stage at Northwestern

“Museum” by Tina Howe will be presented by Northwestern College theatre Nov. 10 and 16–18 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 11 at 2 and 7:30 p.m. The comedy will be performed in the England Theatre of the DeWitt Theatre Arts Center.

Set in a museum gallery in the 1970s, “Museum” takes place on the final day of an exhibition by three contemporary artists. Visitors wander through the exhibit throughout the day, musing on the art and sometimes vexing the guards charged with keeping it secure. Their comments and behavior reveal their diverse levels of art experience and appreciation, their reactions ranging from guffaws to awe.

Director April Hubbard says audience members will learn a little about contemporary art and even more about humans as the characters are also on display. “The playwright loves absurdist comedy, so some of the characters are delightfully extreme,” she says. Hubbard expects audiences will also enjoy the ’70s-era costumes, which include leisure suits and bell bottoms.

Multiple roles will be played by many of the 18 cast members. The cast includes Charlie Hubbard, Orange City; Kit Fynaardt, Alton; and Chris Miksch from Le Mars.

Tickets for “Museum” are $8 for adults and $4 for students and are available starting Oct. 30 for Theatre Patrons and Oct. 31 through Nov. 18 for the general public.
