Northwestern College will host Dove Award-winning Christian band Tenth Avenue North with special guest Phil Wickham in a concert at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26, in the DeWitt Physical Fitness Center (Note: Changed from the previously announced location of Christ Chapel).
General admission tickets are $20 and can be purchased at www.ticketfly.com and in Northwestern’s student life office in the Ramaker Center. A $35 deluxe ticket offers purchasers early access, a Q/A with Tenth Avenue North and an exclusive tour poster.
The From Islands to Cathedrals Tour is in support of Tenth Avenue North’s fourth album, “Cathedrals,” which will be released in November. The recording is a collection of songs that inspire community, encourage accountability and celebrate the fact we are not alone. “So many of us live in isolation, and we really don’t have to,” says lead vocalist Mike Donehey. “We realize that when we start to live together, we become the cathedrals on earth. We are the place where the spirit resides—it no longer dwells in buildings but in each of us.”
The album’s lead single, “No Man is an Island,” is currently among the top-played songs in Christian radio.
Tenth Avenue North made its national debut in 2008 on Reunion Records with “Over and Underneath,” which spawned the hits “Love is Here,” “By Your Side” and “Hold My Heart.” The band won the Gospel Music Association Dove Award in 2009 for New Artist of the Year, and in 2010 “By Your Side” was named Song of the Year. With subsequently released albums “The Light Meets the Dark” and “The Struggle,” the group has continued to create memorable songs as “Healing Begins,” “You Are More,” “Strong Enough to Save,” “Losing” and “Worn.”
The concert will be opened by popular praise songwriter/singer Phil Wickham, who is known for such songs as “This is Amazing Grace,” “Safe,” “At Your Name,” “Messiah/You’re Beautiful,” “Divine Romance” and “True Love.” The California native has recorded several albums, including “The Ascension,” which was released last year.
