Professor and students speak at psychology conference

Dr. Laird Edman, associate professor of psychology at Northwestern College, presented three papers with students at the annual convention of the Association for Psychological Science in Washington, D.C. , at the end of May.

Edman and Chelsey Scott presented "
The Relationships Among Age, Epistemological Beliefs, Scientific Misconceptions and Confidence in Faculty and Students."

With Amy Vander Holt, Edman spoke on "
The Effects of Cross-cultural Experiences on Emotional Intelligence, Spirituality, Epistemology, Empathy, Optimism and Vocational Thought."

Edman and Candace Gross presented "Epistemology, Self-Concept, and Need for Achievement as Predictors of Academic Achievement and Honors Participation."

The professor also is the author of a chapter included in an e-book published by the American Psychological Association. "Are They Ready Yet? Epistemological Development and Critical Thinking," was published in Essays From E-xcellence in Teaching.
