Students to present vocal recital

Poppen and Weger will each perform six solo pieces and join together to perform four duets. Poppen’s solos include George Frederick Handel’s Non disperar from the opera Julius Caesar, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Ach, ich fühl’s from the opera The Magic Flute and Igor Stravinsky’s Anne’s Aria from the opera The Rake’s Progress. She will also sing two pieces by Claude Debussy: Mandoline and Noël des enfants qui n’ont plus de maisons. Her sixth solo will be Music I Heard With You by Leonard Bernstein.
Weger’s solos will include Esurientes implevit bonis from J.S. Bach’s Magnificat in D Major and Mozart’s Laudamus te from his Mass in C Minor. She will sing two solos by Johannes Brahms: O wüsst’ ich doch den Weg zurück and Von ewiger liebe. From Stravinsky’s Requiem Canticles, Weger will sing Lacrymosa and from Gian Carlo Menotti’s opera The Saint of Bleeker Street she will perform Ah, Michele, Don’t You Know.

Both Poppen and Weger will be accompanied on piano by staff accompanist Lori Vande Brake. Weger’s brother, Adam, will provide accompaniment on the oboe and senior Jenna Teerink will play the flute.
Poppen is a K-12 music education major originally from
Weger is a violin performance and music education major from Huron, S.D. She plans to attend graduate school for violin performance after graduation. She has been involved in the Symphonette, String Quartet, A cappella Choir, Heritage Singers and Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra.
