Homecoming to include celebration of 125th anniversary

Northwestern College will celebrate its
125th anniversary during Homecoming 2007, Oct. 5–7. Along with Homecoming favorites, the weekend’s activities will include a special anniversary program and dance Saturday evening. All alumni and friends of the college are invited.
Homecoming begins Friday, Oct. 5. Throughout the day, alumni and visitors can tour campus, visit classes, attend chapel worship and join students for lunch in the DeWitt Center cafeteria. Tour and class schedules—along with other Homecoming and anniversary information—will be available at the hospitality table in the Rowenhorst Student Center from 8:30 to 11 a.m.
At 6:30 p.m., the Distinguished Alumni Dinner will honor the professional, humanitarian and Northwestern service achievements of Marty Guthmiller ’82 and Dave Hulsart ’91, both of Orange City, and Dr. Don Van Etten ’54, of Rapid City, S.D. Cost is $10; reservations are required.
Northwestern College theatre will present a family show, The Impossibles, Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for students; tickets may be reserved by contacting the alumni office any time or the box office after Sept. 25: 712-707-7098 or boxoffice@nwciowa.edu.
Homecoming and anniversary events continue Saturday morning with the 14th annual Raider 5K Run/Walk. The race begins at 8:30 a.m. near Christ Chapel. Pre-registration is $10; cost is $15 the day of the race.
From 9:30 a.m. to noon, enjoy Morning on the Green in the center of campus. Refreshments and carnival games will provide fun for all ages. Other Saturday morning events include alumni baseball and softball games at 10 a.m. on the MOC-Floyd Valley diamonds and an alumni wrestling meet at 11:30 a.m. in the Bultman Center.
A free exhibition of alumni art will be on display throughout the weekend in the Te Paske Gallery of the Korver Visual Arts Center. An opening reception with the artists is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday.
A picnic lunch will be served at Jaycee Park near Hospers Hall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $5.75 for adults and $3.75 for children ages 6 to 12; children under 5 eat free. A tent will be designated for the reunions of the classes of 1977, 1987, 1997 and 2002.
The Raider football team will kick off against Briar Cliff University at 1:30 p.m. at Korver Field. Other Homecoming sports competitions include volleyball matches against Dakota Wesleyan Friday evening at 7:30 and Nebraska Wesleyan Saturday at 4 p.m.
The 125th anniversary celebration and all-school reunion for alumni and friends of Northwestern begins Saturday at 5 p.m. in the Rowenhorst Student Center. Orange City restaurants will be selling food, and areas will be designated for reunions by decades.
From 7 to 7:45 p.m., an anniversary program in the Bultman Center gymnasium will include a multimedia presentation, theatrical tribute and combined A cappella/alumni choir singing the alma mater and “Beautiful Savior.”
A Homecoming and Anniversary Dance, with music by the Des Moines Big Band, will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight in the RSC gymnasium.
