Harpist to present student recital

Mihm is a music major with a psychology minor. While her recital features harp and voice, she also plays piano. Mihm has used her talents in a variety of capacities at Northwestern, including the Sunday Night Praise and Worship team, the A cappella Choir and the Symphonic Band. This fall she adds choreographer to her list of accomplishments as she is choreographing a piece for the annual RUSH dance performance.

Mihm will begin her recital with a piece she arranged, “Siuil A Run,” a traditional Irish ballad. “I feel that performing my own arrangements and compositions allows me to connect with my audience in an even greater way than if I play a piece written by someone else,” says Mihm. “I know what I am trying to say and how I want the audience to feel because I know what I wanted to convey when I wrote or arranged the piece.”

Next Mihm will perform two volumes composed by Bernard Andres, “Epices.” Each volume features four movements.

Mihm will close her recital with “Moonbeams,” a piece arranged for the harp and cello by Joyce Rice. Mihm will be joined by cellist Catherine McIntire, a graduate of Bethel University in St. Paul, Minn.

Mihm, who has been preparing for the recital all summer, looks forward to taking her audience to different places through her music. “I would like for my audience to feel not only that they have attended a well-rehearsed performance, but a performance filled with passion and emotion.

“This isn’t just your regular harp performance,” Mihm continues. “I will be employing many different and innovative techniques.”

Mihm plans to graduate in December and has applied to several graduate schools.
