As Northwestern's associate dean of Christian formation, Barb Dewald is in charge of programming and opportunities designed to encourage the Christian growth of Northwestern students. She oversees and facilitates the leadership development of the college's 25-student Campus Ministry Team. She also coordinates discipleship groups, working with and providing training for 42 volunteer student leaders; provides pastoral care and mentoring for students; supervises staff in charge of missions and service programs; and assists with the planning of chapel.

Barb holds a Doctor of Ministry degree in leadership and spiritual formation from George Fox Evangelical Seminary, a Master of Divinity degree from Sioux Falls Seminary, and a master's degree in counseling from the University of South Dakota. She also is a member of the Fellowship of Short-Term Ministry Leaders, and as such, co-wrote the organization's Standards of Excellence in Short-Term Mission, a common set of guidelines to ensure the effectiveness of mission experiences. Prior to joining Northwestern's staff, she served as director of residence life and assistant campus pastor at the University of Sioux Falls.
