The A cappella Choir’s three-part concert begins with songs focusing on the progression of the human heart from cold to submission and finally worship at the foot of the cross. Next the choir will perform folk and virtuosic selections, and the concert will close with spirituals.

The first part of the concert will include dramatizations of portions of John Bunyan’s “Pilgrim’s Progress” and choral arrangements of the hymns “Softly and Tenderly” and “When I Survey.”

Part two features several onomatopoeic pieces, when choir members will use their voices as instruments, including “Pokpok Alimpako,” about a children’s game, and “Naiman Sharag,” which includes the sound of horses.

The third part of the concert includes “Ezekiel Saw the Wheel,” “Daniel in the Lion Den” and the choir’s traditional “Beautiful Savior.”

Northwestern’s A cappella Choir is directed by Dr. Thomas Holm, associate professor of music at the college and conductor of the Sioux County Oratorio Chorus. The A cappella Choir has performed across the United States and in Eastern Europe.
