Brett Bastian is a professor of practice for the physician assistant program and a board-certified physician assistant. With 28 years of experience as a PA, he has worked in family practice, neurosurgery, and orthopedic hand surgery. Bastian has also served as a preceptor for PA students. Prior to joining Northwestern's faculty, Bastian was a guest lecturer for PA students and family medicine residents.

Bastian also serves as a physician assistant with Avera Neurosurgery in Sioux Falls, SD, working alongside neurosurgeons providing office-based care for neurosurgical patients. In addition, he is co-founder of Warriors Never Give Up, a faith-based nonprofit organization that provides outdoor adventures for combat, deployed, and service-connected veterans. He received Northwestern's Faculty Inspirational Service Award in 2023.
