Northwestern to host annual leadership conference
Thursday, January 19, 2017
The third annual Northwestern Leadership Series professional development conference will be held on the campus of Northwestern College June 8 and 9. Session speakers will share their strategies for bold, servant-hearted leadership that can be applied in the workplace, in the community and at home.
Keynote speakers include Wess Stafford, author and former president and CEO of Compassion International, a leading authority in holistic child development through sponsorship; Ann Bilbrew, social worker and pastor at Living Springs Riverdale, a congregation in one of Chicago’s south suburbs; and Shelly Vroegh, 2017 Iowa Teacher of the Year.
Popular presenters from last year’s conference will be part of a full schedule of speakers who will offer expert advice on topics such as ethical leadership, nurturing diversity, leading a Generation Z workforce, workplace mentoring and coaching, and more.
This year, the conference is also offering a teacher leadership track for participants interested in earning either graduate credit or license renewal credit. Attend a full schedule of sessions during the two-day conference to earn the 15 contact hours necessary for license renewal. Those seeking a graduate credit must also complete an online course that builds upon what they learned during the conference and helps them identify how to apply the information to their professional role.
“Teachers are leaders in their classrooms, schools and communities, but the transition to leading, coaching or mentoring others can be complicated,” says Dr. Sara Waring-Tiedeman, director of Northwestern’s Master of Education program. “Attending the leadership conference will allow participants to learn from experienced teacher leaders who will share their experiences and strategies in the field of educational leadership.”
The conference is sponsored by Northwestern College Graduate School & Adult Learning and the college’s Franken Leadership Center in partnership with Pizza Ranch.
“It has been an honor to host this event for our community the past two years,” says Dr. Sandi Altena, director of the Franken Leadership Center. “The positive feedback has been tremendous and provides evidence that faithful leadership development is something Christians hunger for and are excited to grow in.”
Registration for the Northwestern Leadership Series costs $99 and is open until June 1. Visit www.nwciowa.edu/lead for details and to register.
