Northwestern online student awarded leadership scholarship

Northwestern College online graduate student Amanda Winslow of West Des Moines is one of just two individuals awarded a 2016 Leadership Fellowship Scholarship from the Iowa Association for the Education of Young Children (Iowa AEYC).

The Iowa AEYC is dedicated to the development of leadership within early childhood care and the field of early childhood education. The organization’s fellowship awards selected participants $4,000 to develop their leadership skills through graduate programs or attendance at state or national professional development opportunities. In turn, they are expected to provide leadership to the early childhood field throughout the state.

Winslow is pursuing a Master of Education degree in early childhood through Northwestern College Graduate Studies & Adult Learning. She has 11 years of experience in early childhood education, including her current roles as an early childhood education program consultant for Shared Visions, which offers preschool programs for high-risk children in 51 counties, and as a member of the Early Childhood Iowa State Technical Assistance Team. Winslow will present a workshop on the NAEYC Code of Ethics at the Iowa AEYC Fall Institute.

“I believe strongly in building relationships with others to work collaboratively with a common goal to improve early care and education for young learners,” says Winslow. With an expected graduation of fall 2017, Winslow plans to use her new degree to advocate for high-quality education and care for young children.
