Northwestern College adds master teacher to graduate options

Less than a year old, the Northwestern College Master of Education program has 60 students with more than 30 new students projected to enroll in January. Part of the enrollment boost in January is due to two new online programs: a master teacher M.Ed. and a teacher leadership graduate certificate.

The new master teacher M.Ed. degree is the college’s most customizable master’s degree. Suitable for educators teaching at any level, the master teacher curriculum includes 18 credits of core courses and 12 to 15 credits of elective courses, enabling students to tailor their graduate degree to their specific career goals. The flexibility of the program also enables enrollees to transfer up to six credits from other graduate programs.

The 12-credit graduate certificate in teacher leadership is designed for educators who already have a master’s degree or who want specialized, graduate-level training. Trained teacher leaders will be positioned for promotion to non-administrative or district-level roles such as instructional coach or peer mentor.

Northwestern College’s graduate school also offers online M.Ed. degrees in early childhood and teacher leadership as well as a graduate-level endorsement in early childhood integrated setting.
