Called to care
Growing up 20 miles from Northwestern’s campus, Monika heard great things about the college from high school teachers and people in her church. After taking a tour, she felt very comfortable with her decision to enroll, convinced she would be surrounded by others who seek to grow in their faith like she does. A psychology major and sociology minor, she is part of a research team with a professor. She plans to enroll in Northwestern’s master’s program in clinical mental health counseling and pursue a career helping others.Made to listen
In high school, friends told me I am very easy to talk to and I give good advice in times of need. I have always been interested in people’s unique experiences and how that shapes them. I knew from an early age I wanted to help people navigate their mental struggles and find ways to live a better life. I find great joy in hearing someone say, “Thank you for just listening to me.”
A strong foundation
This program equips you with every fundamental skill needed to go forward into more specialized psychology programs. I have gained valuable knowledge and skills from my stats classes but also have gained knowledge that will serve me in my counseling career that focuses more on mental health causes and effects, disorders, the brain and behavior relationship, and more.
Invested in me
I have nothing but good things to say about Northwestern’s faculty. I feel fully supported, seen, cared for and understood by them. They always encourage us to stop by with any questions or just to chat. They have played a major role in making my Northwestern experience so meaningful, and I am forever grateful for the heart and care they pour into students.
Growing faith
I’ve come to realize my worth does not come from my work. I’ve also learned it’s OK to let go and trust God. I’ve discovered that faith is meant to be shared. Worshiping together with a body of believers is a beautiful experience, and I’ve been touched so many times by worshiping with other Northwestern students in chapel.
