Pursuing pediatrics
Kamea knew she wanted to attend a Christian college, but at first the aspiring pediatrician was unsure which one to choose. “What ended up being the turning point for Northwestern,” she says, “was that I knew I would be pushed in my faith, my academics and my athletics.” At NWC, Kamea is majoring in both chemistry and biology-health professions. She has been a two-sport athlete, tutor, resident assistant and a member of the Black V improv club, among other activities.Interest in inquiry
I really enjoy applying math and logical thinking to scientific arguments, and chemistry can also have some really great labs! I really appreciate how Northwestern allows me to dive into my interests in this realm while still equipping me for med school through other classes in the biology-health professions major.
Standout facilities
The equipment and environment at NWC are really nice. We have access to a lot of different resources, and the science building is just beautiful. Compared to the workspaces of my friends at other colleges, ours really has no parallel. The natural light of all the windows just does wonders for your mindset when you’re on the grind in a lab or class!
Mentored in faith
Northwestern has been an absolutely amazing place for my faith journey. I have been so encouraged by both peers and mentors like professors. I have begun to learn how to actually integrate my faith into my daily life, and how to simply grow to be a woman of God.
Pushed + prepared
Northwestern’s STEM programs are not designed to sit back and let you just pass or fail—they will push you, but with the support of professors, tutors and classmates. I did not want to be underprepared for med school, and that was one reason I chose NWC. I knew they had a good program going in, and I am even more confident in it as I am going through it.
