Dr. Chris Hausmann seeks to strengthen students’ biblical understanding of justice in his criminal justice and sociology courses. Beyond his doctoral degree in sociology, he has taken master’s level coursework in criminal justice studies from Florida State University. To help students practice information sharing and problem-solving skills, he guides classroom discussions using collaborative techniques developed by intelligence analysts.
Justice advocate
Dr. Hausmann has actively pursued work in peace and justice since his days of undergraduate study at St. John’s University in Minnesota. After earning a bachelor’s degree in peace studies, he completed graduate degrees in sociology from the University of Notre Dame. He has co-edited an issue of Journal for Peace and Justice Studies, presented and published work on social movements, and conducted research on how people of faith understand race relations.
Committed Catholic
A member of a local Catholic parish, Dr. Hausmann enjoys teaching at a Reformed institution that values Christian intellectual life. He often finds himself conversing with students and colleagues about how Catholics and Protestants can learn from one another’s experiences and insights.
Seeking truth
Dr. Hausmann’s research has led him to explore how both security intelligence analysis and restorative justice rely on vulnerability, trust and courage to seek truth. By encouraging those qualities in the work of criminal justice, he prepares students to grow in their values and pursue systemic reform.
