Perfect harmony
Allyson chose to study music education at Northwestern because she felt at home during a campus tour; soon, she settled into performing with the Symphonic Band, A cappella Choir, Heritage Singers, Raider Athletic Band and Theatre Production Ensemble. She plans to share the joy she finds in the performing arts by one day serving as a teacher in a small school.Hands-on
I really appreciate getting to spend time in the high school classroom early on in my education. I have gained so much experience, and it has shown me I am on the right path for my future job.
Walk right in
I often find myself having questions on homework, ensemble music or even just about life, and the professors are always open to talking and listening. Because of their open doors, I have been able to better understand music theory, music history and countless other music subjects.
Beyond academics
Something that specifically impacted my faith was attending a Bible study started by a music faculty member. It was so encouraging and powerful to spend time in the Word with someone who had gone through many challenges and joys in life and was willing to share her wisdom. It also allowed us to get to know our professor on a spiritual level.
Future educator
I have learned so much about the world of music and education that will help me become a better teacher in my future classroom, and I have been able to learn because of the people surrounding me.
Community
I have never felt more spiritually supported and loved by a community. I truly believe this place sets you up for a future rooted in Christ and his teachings. I have gained a community that will last a lifetime.
