Answering God’s call

Alexia felt called to pastoral ministry before ever stepping onto Northwestern’s campus. A biblical + theological studies major with a psychology minor, she’s embraced opportunities to lead and serve through her work as a peer tutor and involvement in the Honors Program, Women in Leadership and musical ensembles. As she prepares for seminary and a future in ministry, she’s grateful for the community, mentorship and leadership experiences that have helped her grow in faith and confidence.

A place to belong
I knew I wanted to attend a Christian college because I wanted to surround myself with other believers and grow in my faith alongside them. Along with the strong academics, I was drawn in to the community I saw when I toured NWC. Multiple students came up and started conversations with me, and I knew this would be a place where people encourage and support each other. People care about you as a person, want to see you succeed and will help you however they can.

Preparing for ministry
The BTS program has given me a rich understanding of the Bible and helped me see just how intricate and beautiful Scripture is. It’s also a well-rounded major—you learn everything from biblical interpretation and theology to practical ways to grow your faith and encourage others.

Great mentors
NWC professors are incredible! There is so much knowledge in every department, and every professor is happy to answer questions and listen as you work through ideas. I also love the multidisciplinary approach they take. My psychology and BTS professors have encouraged me to connect both fields, which has deepened my understanding of each.

Growing by leading
Northwestern has given me so many opportunities to lead. Through those roles, I’ve learned how to serve first, listen well and meet people where they are. I’ve also gained confidence, both in the calling God has placed on my life and in the abilities he’s developing in me. These experiences have shaped the kind of leader I want to be and will be vital as I pursue a future in pastoral ministry.
