Sioux County Oratorio Chorus to perform at NWC

The Sioux County Oratorio Chorus will present a concert in conjunction with Northwestern’s A cappella Choir in Christ Chapel on Saturday, May 3, at 7:30 p.m.

Under the direction of Dr. Thomas Holm, professor of music at Northwestern, the chorus will perform Beethoven’s “Mass in C Major.” Sung in Latin, the piece incorporates choir, four professional soloists and a chamber orchestra in a dramatic and moving setting of the Roman Catholic liturgy.

The chorus has also presented such masterworks as Handel’s “Messiah,” Bach’s “St. John Passion” and Bernstein’s “Chichester Psalms.”

“Ludwig Van Beethoven was a master at creating harmonic, rhythmic and melodic drama,” says Holm.  “I am excited for the audience to hear his genius at work as he weaves orchestra, choir, soloists and the rich Latin text of the Mass into a powerful, rich, dramatic, beautiful tapestry.”

Tickets are $5 for students and $8 for adults in advance; $10 at the door. Tickets can be purchased by visiting Northwestern’s music office between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The music office can also be reached by phone, 712-707-7062, or email nverburg@nwciowa.edu.

Tickets are also available for purchase at the Dove Bookstore in Orange City, at True Vine or the Dordt music office in Sioux Center, and in Sheldon at Touch of Hope.
