Trapp receives competitive summer research grant
Dr. Joonna Trapp, associate professor of English, has been selected to receive Northwestern’s $10,000 Competitive Summer Research Grant.
Jeff Barker, professor of theatre and speech, and Dr. Tom Boogaart, professor of Old Testament at Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Mich., gave co-presentations at the Calvin Symposium for Worship and the Arts, held in January in Grand Rapids, Mich.
A video developed for Northwestern’s admissions office has received its second award in three weeks. This time, the video received the Bronze Award for schools with under 2,000 students in the Admissions Marketing Report’s national competition.

Student presents research at mathematics conference
Michael Holm, a senior actuarial science and mathematics major from Orange City, gave a poster presentation at the January joint meetings of the American Mathematical Society and the Mathematical Association of America in Atlanta.
Dan Young, assistant professor of political science, has completed the requirements for his doctoral degree.
Dr. Scott Monsma, associate professor of sociology, and five NWC students received an insider’s view of the Middle East while in Oman during Christmas break.

Carlson represents Northwestern in India ceremonies
Dr. Doug Carlson, professor of history and associate academic dean, traveled to India in December with four other representatives of the Reformed Church in America.

Marketing students honored by state treasurers association
Three senior business administration majors at Northwestern College were recognized recently by the Iowa State County Treasurers Association for marketing consultation services they provided.
Dr. Scott Monsma, assistant professor of sociology, and five students are in Oman from Dec. 18-Jan. 5. The Northwestern group will spend time in the cities of Muscat, Sur and Nizwa, engaging in a dialogue about Islam, Arab culture and Omani culture.
