Kylie Foss, a biology-health professions major from Brandon, South Dakota, received Faculty Honors during Northwestern College’s commencement exercises on May 9.

The Faculty Honors award is bestowed upon graduates who excel in academic achievement, Christian influence, general attitude and participation in worthwhile campus activities. It is the highest honor the faculty gives to graduating seniors and is determined by a vote of the entire faculty.

Foss graduated summa cum laude and received an Outstanding Graduating Senior Award from the biology department. An Honors Scholar, she researched how fat metabolism influences the spread of pancreatic cancer.

During her time at Northwestern, she served as a peer tutor and participated in the Pre-Health Professions Club. Her research on phages—viruses that infect bacteria—was published in GenBank and led to presentations at the SEA Symposium and the American Microbiology Society North Central branch conference.

A four-year letter winner on Northwestern’s women’s basketball team, Foss earned NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors and College Sports Communicators Academic All-District recognition along with All-GPAC honorable mention distinction.

This fall, Foss will pursue a graduate degree in physician assistant studies at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
