RUSH dance concert stages final performances at Northwestern

Compilation of images of dancersNorthwestern College’s RUSH dance concert will stage three final performances in March. The RUSH finale is scheduled for Friday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 29, at 2 and 7:30 p.m. in the England Proscenium Theatre.

This year’s concert will highlight a variety of dance styles, including hip-hop, jazz funk, lyrical, Bollywood, K-pop, reggaeton, tap, musical theatre and pointe. Six dances are choreographed by RUSH alumni and will showcase 48 alumni dancers who are learning their routines through video recordings and Zoom calls.

More than 50 Northwestern students are also participating in RUSH this year, including nine in the college’s NEXT program for students with intellectual or developmental disabilities and 11 student choreographers. Holding to the same ethos of its founding members in 2003, all students are welcome to participate in RUSH, even those with no prior dance experience.

Madison Follett, an adjunct instructor at Northwestern, will serve as director of this year’s event and will share producer credits with fellow RUSH alumna Emily Loveland Query.

“RUSH was a big deal on campus when I was a student and still has a powerful impact on those participating,” says Follett. “Knowing that this would be the last year of RUSH, I felt as though we couldn’t exclude alumni, especially those who consider RUSH one of their favorite Northwestern memories. It’s exciting to see so many dancers returning to celebrate all that RUSH has given us!”

Tickets for RUSH are $1 and may be ordered by calling 712-707-7098, emailing boxoffice@nwciowa.edu, or through Northwestern’s online box office at nwciowa.edu/tickets. A small credit card processing fee will be added to the cost of online tickets. Tickets will go on sale Friday, March 14, and may also be purchased at the door prior to performances.
