President Christy granted summer sabbatical

Northwestern College President Greg Christy has been granted a summer sabbatical.

“The Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees is granting President Christy a sabbatical from May 15 to Aug. 14 in gratitude for his 15 years of outstanding leadership,” says Tricia Vermeer, chair of the board. “We look forward to his continued leadership after this well-deserved pause for renewal.”

Christy plans to spend extra time traveling and in Bible study, inspirational reading, prayer, meditation and solitude during the sabbatical.

“I love serving Northwestern as part of God’s call on my life and work,” says President Christy. “Michelle and I are deeply grateful to the board for their support and encouragement. My goal is to return from the sabbatical refreshed, renewed and eager for the challenges of the next season of mission and ministry at Northwestern.”

In order to fully participate in the sabbatical experience, President Christy will not be available via email, text or phone. Dr. Nate Phinney, vice president for academic affairs, will fulfill all chief executive functions in Christy's absence. Should you have a concern during this time, please contact Cindy Jacob and Dr. Phinney in the academic affairs office (712-707-7102 or cindy.jacob@nwciowa.edu), or Jill Haarsma in the president’s office (712-707-7100 or jhaarsma@nwciowa.edu).
