Northwestern College A cappella Choir to present touring concert
Wednesday, March 2, 2022
Northwestern College’s A cappella Choir will perform its touring concert in Christ Chapel on Friday, March 18, at 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
The concert will feature the choir’s full spring tour program, which includes a variety of sacred works, spirituals and compositions from the United States, Taiwan, Ireland and South Africa. F.M. Christiansen’s arrangement of “Praise to the Lord,” a new setting of “Be Still My Soul,” and a rousing blues and jazz setting of “Since I Laid My Burden Down” are among the ensemble’s repertoire.
The Heritage Singers will also perform “Dúlamán,” a virtuosic Irish dance for chorus, voice, solo violin and percussion. Several songs will feature student soloists and instrumentalists, and choir alumni will be invited to join in the choir’s traditional “Beautiful Savior.”
“This year’s tour literature includes many new pieces, but also some of our choir favorites from the past several years,” says Dr. Thomas Holm, professor of music and director of the A cappella Choir. “We want to share our very best pieces with our international audiences.”
The 46-member choir will tour in Denmark and Sweden May 17–29—a change from their original plans to tour to Taiwan. The ensemble will present several concerts in Danish and Swedish churches and schools, some of which will be joint performances with local choirs.
