Northwestern to host January faith camp for high school students

Student in worship at Living Your Faith camp

High school students are invited to participate in Living Your Faith (LYF), a weekend campus experience hosted by Northwestern College Jan. 28–30.

The “Christian training camp” is for high school freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors who are passionate about their faith, have an interest in a career in ministry, or would like to become more involved in their church.

“This weekend is for any high school student who is looking for a safe space to ask hard questions about the Bible and theology,” says Elissa O’Dell, director of Living Your Faith. “They will experience engaging lectures from Northwestern’s biblical and theological studies professors, learn about a local ministry in Orange City, and worship in community with one another. We hope students will leave excited about participating in God’s work in their hometowns.”

LYF campers will spend the weekend living in campus dorms alongside other LYFers and college mentors. In addition to hearing lectures from Northwestern theology faculty, students will meet in small groups, practice spiritual disciplines, and visit Genesis House in Orange City to learn about their ministry.

“I learned so much about community and who I am in Christ,” says Faith Tyrrell, Marshalltown, Iowa, who participated in a summer LYF camp in 2019. Isaac Morrison of Glenwood, Iowa, adds, “LYF enabled me to make new friends of fellow believers and have great discussions about Christianity. I got incredible insights into my faith and how to both live it and grow it.”

Living Your Faith is free to students and includes room, board, field trips, and access to Northwestern campus facilities and amenities. LYF is funded by a grant from the Lilly Endowment, which funds initiatives aimed at giving young people opportunities to meaningfully engage their faith.  Learn more about Living Your Faith and register by Jan. 15 at lyf.nwciowa.edu.
