Religion students attend conferences in nation's capital

Seven Northwestern religion students and Dr. Michael Andres, associate professor of religion, attended the American Academy of Religion and Evangelical Theological Society conferences Nov. 15 to 19 in Washington, D.C.
At the conferences, the students were challenged to think about the role of Christians in the public square, along with other current issues in theology and religious studies. They heard such scholars as Ron Sider, Greg Boyd, J. Budziszewski, William Lane Craig and John Piper.
The students also visited such places as the White House, Capitol, Washington and Lincoln Memorials, Smithsonian, Holocaust Museum, Arlington Cemetery and the National Cathedral, considering how Christians ought to respond to power and national identity.
Funds from Vocare: Find Your Place, Northwestern's Lilly Grant, helped pay for the students' expenses.
