Ross Bouma earned a doctorate in kinesiology with a dissertation that focused on the decline of interscholastic sports officials and identifying perceived barriers of college athletes to becoming high school sports officials. He also has a Master of Physical Education degree with an emphasis in athletic administration, more than 15 years of experience teaching physical education and health, and eight years of administrative experience in education and athletics. He has coached a variety of sports, including football, soccer, basketball, track and golf. While a member of the Iowa High School Athletic Association, he served on the association's Basketball Advisory Committee. Bouma is also certified as an emergency medical technician and serves part time as an EMT for the Orange City Area Health System.
