Professor Williams holds both a Master of Fine Arts degree and a post-baccalaureate certificate in ceramics—the former from California State University, Long Beach, and the latter from Oregon College of Art & Craft. She is a graduate of Wheaton College in Illinois, where she majored in studio art and Christian formation and ministry.
Prior to joining Northwestern's art department faculty, Williams taught at Santa Monica College, Concordia University Irvine, California State University, Long Beach, and at George Fox University, where she was also artist in residence. In addition to teaching ceramics at Northwestern, she serves as the department's community outreach director.
Williams' art has been featured in group and solo exhibitions in California and Oregon, and accepted into juried exhibitions in 11 states, from Washington and California to Massachusetts and New York.
ART215 - Ceramics
(4 credits) The art of working with clay and other ceramic materials. Emphasis will be upon learning the fundamentals of three-dimensional design and achieving an understanding of clay as a unique art form. Techniques include hand-building sculptural and functional forms, and learning the basics of throwing on the wheel and glazing. Note: A fee is associated with this course.
ART317 - Sculpture
(4 credits) Students will use a variety of three-dimensional materials and methods to explore the question: What makes good design? Stressing practice before theory, students will manipulate and construct designs that reveal and embody the principles underlying good design. Students will focus on the development of strong ideas, creativity, and problem solving skills. Work must demonstrate effective execution and conceptual clarity, and students must be able to articulate their process and concept. Note: A fee is associated with this course.
