As dean of arts and humanities, Dr. John Vonder Bruegge oversees the departments of art, biblical and theological studies, English, foreign languages, history, music, philosophy, and theatre. Gifted as both a teacher and leader, he is the 2009 recipient of the Northwestern Teaching Excellence Award and serves as the co-director of the college's Honors Program. He earned a doctorate from Yale University and a master's degree in theology from Harvard. He also studied archaeology in Israel and Greece, participated in an archaeological excavation in Turkey, and authored a book on Mapping Galilee in Josephus, Luke, and John. In addition to serving as dean, Vonder Bruegge teaches half time as an associate professor of biblical and theological studies.
