Counseling services
All full-time students are welcome to use counseling services. Students may choose to seek help during times of personal difficulty of any kind, including sadness or depression, anxiety, stress, family problems, difficulties in relationships, grief, sexual assault, disordered eating, body image concerns, self esteem problems, or drug and alcohol issues. Students also receive therapy for sexual identity concerns, suicidal thoughts, adjustment to new situations, medical or health problems, and dating or roommate issues. Therapy is provided in a private and confidential environment and is tailored to meet the unique needs of each student.
In addition to individual therapy, Northwestern’s therapists also provide couples counseling, support groups, crisis intervention, referral to off-campus mental health professionals, training and workshops, educational groups, and consultation for other college faculty or staff who have concerns about a student.
The counseling center is located in the Wellness Center in the newly renovated Rowenhorst Student Center. Students can call x. 7321 or e-mail counselors@nwciowa.edu. The center is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. For emergencies outside those hours, students should contact their resident director (RD), who may then contact a therapist.
