New direction
After three semesters at a community college in California, Bob transferred to Northwestern halfway through the school year. It didn’t take him long to feel at home, however. He plays the drums for a praise and worship team, participates in intramurals, and serves as an Ambassador in the admissions office. He’s also appeared on stage in the college’s annual Ballyhoo talent competition.
Smart choice
“I was going to a community college in Long Beach, but I wasn’t accomplishing much in the environment I was in. When I visited Northwestern, I knew by the campus atmosphere that this was a place where community was held high—and that I would be able to study as well.”
Smooth move
“I can’t remember a single holdup in my transfer to Northwestern. Everyone I talked to over the phone and was in contact with through e-mail was incredibly helpful. When I arrived on campus, I expected to be bombarded with so many things to do, but the staff here made the transition very smooth.”
A place to belong
“One of the things I looked forward to the most at Northwestern was the community. When I visited the campus, I felt like I was already considered a friend by people I hadn’t met before. I am continually amazed at the emphasis on community at Northwestern. I was accepted and started to get involved in campus activities right away.”
Challenge and support
“Classes were quite a step up from community college curriculum. They challenged me not only academically, but even more in my faith. I was a little nervous at first about the load I had taken, but in all of my classes, my professors were eager to help me learn, and that put me at ease.”
God-centered
“God is present at Northwestern College, and that’s very evident in the lives of the faculty, staff and students on this campus. I’m challenged in chapel every week and learning to grow in different areas of my life through Praise and Worship on Sunday nights. I feel like the spiritual life saturates Northwestern—in classes I attend and through people who work here who strive to give us a Christian atmosphere. I encounter Christ everywhere I go.”
Good food, good times
“Besides the dorm I live in, one of my favorite things about Northwestern is the cafeteria. The caf’ is a great place for meeting new people, for sitting down and doing life together over a meal. I fully believe life was designed to be lived in the context of community, and I think the caf’ is one of the many great places to do this. Good food, good conversation, good times.”
Parent approved
“My parents couldn’t have been more excited about me attending Northwestern. They know NWC is an incredible school, and they were proud to bring me here from California. This is a place where I would grow in my faith and where I would learn more about myself than I would at a university.”
